Firefighters called to fire alarms actuating at County Hall – the home of Wiltshire Council in Trowbridge – discovered a major water leak earlier this evening.

One fire crew from Trowbridge Fire Station were dispatched to the alarm call at just before 6pm today.

On entering the building, firefighters discovered that steam from a major water leak in the heating system on the third floor of the building had caused the alarms to sound.

Firefighters worked to salvage computer equipment and electrics from the second floor of County Hall – which was affected by the flood water coming from the leak above.

A team with specialist flood equipment called Aquavacs – vacuums used to evacuate the water – were called the scene, and the fire engine was freed up to attend more serious incidents.

Two firefighters remained at the scene at gone 8pm.
