Firefighters were called to a Swindon home on Sunday afternoon following a number of 999 calls from nearby residents reporting billowing smoke and explosions.

Two crews from nearby fire stations rushed to the scene at around 2pm.

Clouds of smoke engulfed Purton Road, Lynwood Grove and Elborough Road, while the loud explosions caused a number of homes to shake dramatically, according to residents who witnessed the incident.

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed that they attended the blaze and extinguished a fire causing small explosions in a garden of a property on Akers Way, near Purton Road.
