A person has been hit by a train between Oxford and Banbury this evening (Wednesday).

Emergency services were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks at around 5pm – sparking an immediate closure of all lines.

Services running through Oxford or Banbury stations, and others on the route, will be deleted or cancelled until after 7pm.

In a statement, Great Western Railway said: “Unfortunately due to a person being hit by a train between Oxford and Banbury, all lines between these two stations are blocked.

“We understand this will primarily affect Cross Country customers but we are aware in terms of GWR customers, Oxford to Banbury services will be unable to run.

“Oxford station will assist those customers trying to get to stations towards Banbury.

“If travelling from an unstaffed station, please trigger one of the available help-points located on platform level for further assistance.”
