A male has died after being hit by a train near a railway station in Bath.

Emergency services raced to the scene near Oldfield Park station shortly before 2.30pm today (9 November) following reports of a casualty being struck by a train.

The line was closed between Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads until 4pm whilst first responders attended and Network Rail worked to clear the tracks.

In a statement, the British Transport Police confirmed that a person, understood to be male, died – and that their death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson said: “British Transport Police were called to Oldfield Park station at 2.28pm today (9 November) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
