The A303 has been closed in both directions following a serious incident.

Emergency services rushed to the road traffic collision in Chicklade shortly before 8pm this evening (Wednesday, 5 October).

A single vehicle, believed to be a car, crashed into a building on the route and burst into flames.

Fire and ambulance crews, alongside police, are all on attendance.

It is not yet clear whether anyone has been seriously injured in the incident.

The road is blocked between A350 (Chicklade) and A36 (Deptford) and is likely to remain shut both ways for several hours.

A statement on the National Highways website reads: “A single vehicle collision occurred shortly after 20:00 this evening.

”A car has struck a building which has resulted in a fire and large oil spillage. Wiltshire Police, Fire and Ambulance Services are on scene.

“National Highways service providers are en route to assist with traffic management and clear the spillage.”
