Detectives have recovered evidence after a teenager was wounded in a serious assault.

The 18-year-old male was attacked with a glass bottle outside the Mini Market in Birch Street, Swindon, at around 12.30pm today (Tuesday, 4 October).

It came after a disorder broke out involving three people, with only one sustaining serious injuries.

The casualty was rushed to hospital with what are believed to be puncture and slash wounds to his hands and shoulder – caused by a broken glass bottle.

Detectives seized numerous items from within the shop as well as shards of the glass bottle – thought to have been used as a weapon in the incident – in the street.

The area was cordoned off as a crime scene until around 3.30pm – when the police tape was removed and the road, on the junction with George Street, reopened.

Det Insp Rachel Hardy said: “We are currently assessing CCTV footage from the area but we would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have been passing who may have dash cam footage which could be relevant to our investigation.”

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote log number 127. Alternatively, call CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

In an earlier statement, Wiltshire Police said the victim was 16 years old, however, they have since corrected this – confirming his age to be 18.
