A child’s injuries sparked a police investigation in Swindon today (Friday, 2 September).

Local paramedics, supported by Wiltshire Air Ambulance, rushed to a flat in Burbage Road, Penhill, at around 9am following a report of an injured young child.

Concerned that the child’s injuries were suspicious, the ambulance service staff called Wiltshire Police – with several officers attending the scene.

A witness claims a newborn baby was rushed from the address into an ambulance by paramedics whilst several other children were taken into a separate ambulance.

At the height of the incident, two ambulances, an air ambulance, two rapid response ambulance cars and four police vehicles were in attendance.

A force spokesperson confirmed that it was called to the scene by the ambulance service “in relation to welfare concerns for a child who had suffered minor injuries”.

“These [injuries] were deemed to be accidental”, they added.
