A man who took a tumble on a First bus and then died in hospital a week later didn’t die from his injuries sustained during the bus trip, police say.

When an elderly man, in his 70s, fell over on a on the bus between between Bradford-on-Avon and Trowbridge on Tuesday 17 October and died six days later, Wiltshire Police opened a short investigation into his death.

It’s believed the bus braked suddenly, causing the man to fall.

However, following extensive enquiries, the police have said that the man did not suffer a head injury when he fell on the bus and his fall was not a contributory factor to his death.

First West of England’s Managing Director James Freeman launched an investigation alongside Wiltshire Police, to support their efforts as soon as he was made aware.

“As soon as Wiltshire Police informed us we immediately launched an investigation into the reported incident to understand precisely what happened.

“On behalf of everyone at First West of England, the company wishes to pay its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased at this sad time.”
