A stonemason has been rescued from a Wiltshire church roof by the emergency services.

Specially trained firefighters and paramedics responded to reports of a casualty on the roof of St Mary’s Church, in Steeple Ashton near Trowbridge, shortly before midday today (18 May).

The 40-year-old stonemason became trapped by his leg when a chunk of the build came loose.

South Western Ambulance Service sent Hazardous Area Response Team paramedics from Bristol to the incident.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) deployed height and rope rescue trained firefighters from Trowbridge to support regular crews from Trowbridge, Swindon and Bath.

“Crews used safe working at height systems to extricate the casualty from the roof and was then taken to the ambulance”, a DWFRS spokesperson said.

Wiltshire Police also had multiple units in attendance.
