An elderly man has died after sustaining injuries when a bus braked suddenly at some point between Bradford-on-Avon and Trowbridge last week.

The incident happened between 7pm and 9.30pm on Tuesday 17 October.

Wiltshire Police received reports that a man in his 70’s was travelling on a First bus when it braked suddenly; he fell to the floor sustaining an injury to his head and arm.

It’s believed he didn’t seek medical help at the time – however, went to his GP on Monday 23 October because he was feeling unwell; he was then admitted to the Royal United Hospital in Bath where he died that evening.

PC Mark Cargill from the Roads Policing Unit said: “We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident on the bus on the 17 October – perhaps you travelling on it or were nearby when this happened.

“If you can help with our enquiries in any way, please contact me.”

If you can help with police enquiries please contact PC Mark Cargill on 101 or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.

First West of England’s Managing Director James Freeman said: “As soon as Wiltshire Police informed us we immediately launched an investigation into the reported incident to understand precisely what happened.

“On behalf of everyone at First West of England, the company wishes to pay its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased at this sad time. Please know that we will do whatever we can to establish what happened as quickly as possible. We are deeply shocked.”
