A teenager has died after being hit by a train travelling through Wiltshire.

Emergency services were called to railway tracks east of Westbury at around 3pm on Saturday (30 April) following a report of a casualty being struck by a Great Western Railway service.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed at the scene, with the charity’s critical care medics supporting local ambulance crews at the fatal incident.

The 16-year-old boy, who was from the local area, was pronounced dead and his body was later conveyed to Great Western Hospital by land ambulance.

Wiltshire 999s understands that his death is being treated as suicide.

The railway line was blocked for around two hours while 999 responders worked, reopening shortly after 5pm.

Services between Reading and Taunton were affected by the line’s closure – with some journeys cancelled, diverted or delayed.

Wiltshire Police, the British Transport Police and Network Rail were also in attendance.
