Up to 100 graves were targeted by vandals at Kingsdown Cemetery over the weekend.

Swindon Borough Council says up to 100 graves were affected in the incident, which left items – including vases – strewn across the grass

In a statement, an authority spokesperson said: “This morning, our team arrived to work to find grave items and vases scattered around the cemetery, with some items damaged. We believe between 50 and 100 graves in the lawn section have been impacted by these heartless actions.

“Words cannot describe how horrible this is, not only for the families of those graves affected but also for everyone else who has a loved one at rest in the cemetery who will now fear it could happen to them.

“All the items have been put at the far side of the cemetery and we encourage anyone who thinks their loved one’s grave has been targeted to visit the site and retrieve their items.

“This shouldn’t happen and we want to make sure it doesn’t happen again. If anyone has any information about this incident, please contact [email protected].”
