Police have made an arrested after a man was ‘knifed’ during a disorder in Swindon.

Officers responded to reports of a fight breaking out in the Ramsbury Avenue area of Penhill at around 5.30pm this evening (18 March).

On arrival, officers gave first aid to a male casualty who was soon after rushed to hospital with a leg injury – believed to be a stab wound.

It’s understood that Wiltshire Air Ambulance was tasked with the incident but the critical care team were stood down as the helicopter arrived over Swindon.

Armed police later swarmed an address in Penhill Drive, with the road closed in both directions to motorists whilst firearms moved in on a potential suspect.

Numerous local residents claim a man was stabbed during the disorder, which involved up to eight males. However, Wiltshire Police has not confirmed the nature of the man’s injuries.

A crime scene is in place on Ramsbury Avenue, near the junction with Melksham Close. Minety Road is also closed to motorists.

In a statement, the force said: “We were called to the Ramsbury Avenue area of Penhill shortly after 5.30pm following a report that a man had sustained a leg injury during an assault.

“The man has been taken to the Great Western Hospital by ambulance.

“A male has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being conveyed to custody.

“Enquiries are currently ongoing and there will be an increased police presence in the area this evening.

“Anyone with information should call 101 and quote log number 241. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
