A man cried in the dock as he was remanded into custody accused of assaulting his girlfriend.

At Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (10 February), Callum Maloney denied two counts of causing actual bodily harm (ABH), assault by beating and engaging in coercive or controlling behaviour.

Prosecutor Kate Prince said the offences were not suitable for the magistrates’ court and asked for the case to be sent up to the crown court.

She asked justices to remand the 21-year-old defendant, of Kennedy Drive, Swindon, into custody “given the level of violence [allegedly] inflicted during this period”.

Ms Prince said all the charges relate to the same victim. He is accused of telling her where she could go, when she had to be back and made her send photographs to prove who she was with.

“If this was not done to this liking, violence would result”, she told the court.

No bail application was made by the defence.

Magistrates remanded Maloney into custody. He will next appear at Swindon Crown Court in early March.
