A heavily pregnant Swindon woman will give birth in prison after she was handed a custodial sentence for her involvement in drugs supply.

Kelley Marie Morland, 42, of Luna Close, Oakhurst, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of class A drugs, money laundering and possession of class B drugs.

At Swindon Crown Court on Wednesday (8 December), she was jailed for three years despite being visibly heavily pregnant.

The charges came after police officers raided her North Swindon address on 4 September 2020 as a result of community intelligence received.

PC Williams and his local team located her inside the address with cocaine with a street value of approximately £3,000, as well as cash and drugs paraphernalia.

He said: “When the team and I carried out the warrant at Morland’s house, we not only located several thousand pounds worth of class A drugs which was of 92 per cent purity, but also £3,000 cash and drugs paraphernalia including a dealer phone with details of local drug users.

“I am pleased that as a result of this warrant which was carried out by local neighbourhood officers, this woman has been given a prison sentence.

“Supplying class A drugs on this scale to vulnerable people within our community is totally unacceptable and it is positive news that we have been able to disrupt this supply chain and protect some of the most vulnerable people in society.

“Drugs can have such a detrimental effect on a community and can lead to anti-social behaviour and violent crime.

“We take all reports of suspected drug use seriously and would encourage anyone who has concerns to report them to us immediately. Call 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.”
