An Italian grandmother with a history of committing race hate crimes has admitted spouting more racist abuse – this time in front of a police officer.

Guiseppina Levati, 85, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (16 November) where she entered guilty pleas to threatening behaviour and racially aggravated threatening behaviour.

Crown prosecutor Keith Ballinger said the victim, the woman’s neighbour, has heard banging coming from the defendant’s address in York Road, Swindon, in the early hours of 24 July.

Angered by the persistent banging coming from Levati’s garden, the incident was reported to Wiltshire Police and officers attended the scene.

They spoke to the defendant – who claimed she was having issues with her sewage and was trying to fix it – before going to speak to her neighbour.

Levati stood on her doorstep whilst officers were talking to the complaint and began shouting towards them.

“Tell her to go f**k herself”, she remarked. Adding: “She has a long tongue, I’m going to cut it off”.

She also shouted: “If you don’t shut up I’m going to slit your throat” before being warned to be quiet by the attending police officers.

The next day (25 July), PC Grant Hesketh visited Levati’s address to speak to her about the incident.

As the officer was discussing what she had done, she said: “She’s a blinking P**i, she needs to go back to where she comes from”. As a result, she was taken to the police station.

In an interview under caution, she accepted she used the work P**i – a racist term usually used to describe someone from Pakistan living in Britain.

She told of how she had previously been told off for using that word by a Judge in a courtroom.

Magistrates heard how Levati was convicted of racially aggravated criminal damage in 2011 and a racially aggravated public order offence in 2015.

When asked if she accepts she used threatening behaviour towards he neighbour, she replied: “Yeah because she come at five o’clock in the morning, banging on the door like mad.

“She’s a nosey parker, been interfering in me for a long long time.”

Magistrates fined her £200 and told her to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £34.

As she left the courtroom, she said: “I’ll try to behave myself but sometimes my brain doesn’t work, I’m getting old.”
