School urges parents to ‘park considerately’ after road blocked for 25 minutes

A Chippenham primary school has urged parents to ‘park considerately’ after a road was blocked for 25 minutes earlier this week.

Larger vehicles, including a Faresaver bus, were unable to squeeze through a tiny gap left by a parent on the school run in Queens Crescent on Monday (27 September).

Bus drivers have faced delays across Wiltshire in recent weeks due to road closures, new road layouts and queues outside petrol stations, but most notably, their x31 service was stuck for nearly half an hour due to the selfish parking choices of a motorist.

It’s thought that ambulances and fire engines wouldn’t have been able to pass either.

‘On Monday afternoon one of our x31s came to a grinding halt outside a [Queens Crescent School] for 25 minutes whilst a parent left their car blocking the road’, a Faresaver spokesperson said.

They added: ‘These delays are avoidable with a bit of consideration for other road users. We experience scenes like this across our network at school drop off and pick up times.

‘Please remember that vehicles such as buses and emergency services often use these roads so please leave enough space when parking.’

Queens Crescent School, on Facebook, asked people attending the school to think about where they’re parking or park at Ladyfield Church and walk.

A spokesperson said: “We encourage all families to walk/scoot/bike to school wherever possible and are actively engaging with school and local councillors on initiatives to help with this.

“If you must drive to school, please make sure you park safely and considerately, or preferably use the car park at Ladyfield Church.”
