A man has been charged with a series of offences following an incident in Westbury.
22-year-old Anthony Watson appeared in Swindon Magistrates’ Court today accused of repeatedly assaulting his girlfriend and detaining her against her will on Thursday 29 April.
Crown prosecutor Kate Prince said the attack arose out of jealously fueled by cocaine use.
The defendant, of Athelney Avenue, is said to have accused the 19-year-old of cheating with the pizza delivery man who brought the pair food. He went on to demand the pin code for her phone, assaulting her multiple times.
During the attack, it is claimed he told her “you deserved to get killed”.
A young boy walking past the property had called the police after hearing a woman shouting “help, call the police” from a window before it was slammed shut, Ms Prince told the court.
As a result, armed police, dog units and local officers descended on the West Wiltshire town, assisted by a National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter.
It’s said Mr Watson was witnessed fleeing the address moments before the police arrived, but the first officer in attendance was more concerned with the victim’s welfare.
He was later arrested and charged with assault by beating, actual bodily harm, false imprisonment, criminal damage to a mobile phone, internal walls and a shed roof, and the theft of car keys and mobile phone belonging to his alleged victim.
Defending, Mark Glendenning, said his client believed she had been cheating on him, causing him some anger. But the groundworker denies the assaults and false imprisonment.
Magistrates adjourned the case to Salisbury Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing in early June.
Mr Watson was released on bail with conditions to reside with his mother at Athelney Avenue and abide by a curfew of 5pm until 7am seven days a week. He is also prohibited from contacting directly or indirectly two named persons – the victim and a witness – and must not enter Warminster Road.
