A Swindon woman was caught drink driving after members of the public spotted her ‘stumbling’ out of her car yesterday, a court heard.

47-year-old Christina Wall appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court after being remanded in Gablecross custody overnight having been charged with driving over the specified alcohol limit. She pleaded guilty to the offence.

Crown prosecutor Richard Withey said other road users noticed the defendant, of Dewell Mews, Old Town, driving her BMW erratically in Newport Street on Sunday.

The court heard that Wall was seen to pull up and exit her car, stumbling around. As a result, witnesses called the police who swiftly attended the scene.

She cooperated with officers, providing a positive sample of breath and was arrested. In custody, the defendant blew an evidential reading of 134 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

“You won’t come across that reading very often, most people would be unconscious by then”, Withey said.

Defence solicitor Luke Jamieson told of how his client has suffered liver failure in the past due to alcoholism. He said she had been abstinent for the past year, but has “fallen off the wagon”.

He said she has two children, aged 12 and 15, for which she is the sole carer.

The court heard Wall has no previous convictions.

Magistrates adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report and imposed an interim driving disqualification ahead of sentencing next month.
