The A303 has been closed in both directions following a serious road traffic collision.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance was tasked to the incident shortly before 12.30pm this afternoon following reports of a crash involving three cars and a lorry.

The incident is understood to be in Chicklade area, between the A350 Warminster and the B3089 West Knoyle.

A spokesperson for Highways England urged motorists to “avoid the area and expect delays”.

The road is likely to remain closed for several hours for collision investigation work.

A South Western Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We sent numerous resources to the scene, where we were supported by police and fire service personnel.

“We treated two patients, and conveyed one of them – a female – to hospital by air ambulance.”

However, Wiltshire 999s can confirm Wiltshire Air Ambulance did not convey a patient to hospital by air.
