A group of travellers have set up an illegal encampment in Swindon today.

At least ten caravans and numerous vehicles can be seen in a car park on Delta Business Park in West Swindon this afternoon, Monday 15 March.

The group are said to have moved onto the private land off Welton Road.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We received a report at approximately 1.30pm today (15/03) of a group of travellers which has arrived in this area of Swindon – comprising of approximately 20 vehicles.

“Swindon Borough Council have been made aware of the situation.

“We are currently carrying patrols in the area while the group remains.

“We appreciate the public’s patience while this matter is progressed and would urge anyone to call us if there is any anti-social behaviour or disorder caused.”

Local councillor Jim Robbins told locals it could “take a while” to move the travellers on through the council’s legal process.
