A woman has been convicted of three offences after being involved in two crashes whilst drink driving in West Wiltshire.

Mother Lisa Etherington, of Barley Leaze, Chippenham, was arrested after her car was involved in a collision in Bradford on Avon on 26 October 2020.

As first reported by Wiltshire 999s, the 31-year-old’s orange Hyundai i20 hit a bollard in Sladesbrook before coming to rest on top of it.

Etherington’s vehicle had also been involved in a crash in Downs View, around one mile away, a short time before.

In that earlier incident, she failed to stop at the scene despite causing damaged to a 13-plate Ford Connect.

When she was searched on arrest, officers found her to be in possession of a quantity of cannabis.

On an evidential breath test machine in custody, Etherington blew a positive result measuring 67 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35.

At Swindon Magistrates Court on Saturday (20 February), she pleaded guilty to failing to stop following a road traffic collision, drink driving and possession of a Class B drug (namely cannabis).

Taking into account her guilty plea, she was disqualified from driving for 17 months, fined £120, ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim services surcharge of £34.

A charge of careless driving was withdrawn by the Crown Prosecution Service.

The court made an order under Section 27 of the Misuse of Drugs Act to destroy the seized cannabis. A further order was made to deduct the money owed from benefit payments.
