Armed officers and the police helicopter were deployed to reports of two men carrying guns towards a Ministry of Defence (MOD) site in Wiltshire yesterday.

Wiltshire Police says it received a called from a concerned member of the public after spotting the males acting suspiciously close to the protected site.

Authorised Firearms Officers (AFOs) and a police dog unit were tasked to the incident close to MOD Corsham, situated in Westwells Road, at 1.40pm.

The National Police Air Service (NPAS) deployed a helicopter to the scene, tasked to locate the suspects alongside police dog Bree and their armed colleagues.

Bree located the pair in a hide in the woods near to the defence site.

Officers established that the firearms were air rifles and were not being used illegally.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called yesterday (11/2) after reports that two men were acting suspiciously close to a Ministry of Defence site in Corsham.

“We used appropriate resources, including PD Bree, and support from our colleagues at NPAS, to locate the two men quickly.

“On location, all was confirmed to be in order and words of advice were given.”

The MOD Corsham site is home to the Ministry of Defence’s Global Operations Security Control Centre, the Joint Security Co-ordination Centre, and Defence Digital.
