Fire crews are battling a major blaze at a house in Warminster this evening.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Saxons Acre, off Victoria Road at around 5pm today.

The road is blocked by fire engines and ambulances as they deal with the serious incident.

People are being asked to avoid the area due to the number of fire appliances at the scene. Wiltshire Police is also in attendance, dealing with traffic control.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) said: “A number of appliances are currently in attendance at a property fire in Saxons Acre, Warminster.

“Police have also been requested to assist with traffic control so it may be advisable to avoid the area of Victoria Road if possible, due to numerous fire appliances in the area.”

Firefighters were called to an address in Victoria Road, near Saxons Acre, on 23 January and rescued a woman from a house fire following a mental health incident. Wiltshire 999s can confirm that tonight’s incident is at a different property and not believed to be related.

UPDATE 7.15PM: DWFRS station manager Matt Skyme told Wiltshire 999s that firefighters from Warminster, Westbury, Mere, Trowbridge, Frome and Bath all attended the incident.

“We were called to a fire in a detached timber-framed house caused by an unknown fault which then spread to the wall cavity”, he commented.

Continuing, Matt added: “We were able to successfully stop the fire by limiting it to the gable end of the property thanks to quick internal intervention.

“Luckily, there were no casualties. The family has self-evacuated before our arrival.

“A fire investigation is ongoing to locate the source.”
