Police helicopter circles train line near Westbury as officers swarm area

The police helicopter is currently circling the train line near Westbury.

Police officers were seen swarming the area on foot and in vehicles from around 10.45pm tonight (Saturday 23 January), but at this early stage it is unclear as to why.

Police dog units were seen in Slag Lane, Westbury, whilst the helicopter made its way slowly along the Reading to Taunton line between the town and Bratton.

Local residents have reported no trains running for the past hour, signifying a search on the live line. It’s not known where this is for a high-risk missing person or suspect.

UPDATE 11.30PM: Witnesses report seeing police officers and Network Rail staff walking along the railway line. A drone, thought to be flown by police, was also in the area.
