A Corsham leisure centre and a Chippenham primary school have both confirmed positive coronavirus test results over the weekend.
On Saturday Queen’s Crescent School informed parents of one case at the school. Whilst it is not clear whether the case involves a member of staff or a pupil, only one bubble is affected. Those within the bubble have been told to self-isolate for 14 days.
The positive test result was given at the end of the week, at the beginning of half term.
“We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England”, Head of School James Essam wrote in a letter to parents and guardians.
Adding: “The holiday club will remain open over the half term holiday. The school will be open as normal after the half term holidays and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well.”
Today (Sunday), Wiltshire Council announced that two members of leisure staff at its Springfield Community Campus tested positive for COVID-19.
“All preventative measures have been followed, and the campus has, with the advice of Wiltshire Council’s Public Health Team, asked 13 members of staff identified as close contacts to self-isolate for 14 days in line with government guidance”, a council spokesperson said.
The gym and class programmes will run as normal, but due to limited lifeguard availability, the swimming pool will be closed temporarily.
Councillor Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Libraries, commented: “The safety of Springfield Community Campus and those that use it, is of the utmost importance.
“Our Leisure Services staff are working closely with Wiltshire Council’s Public Health Team, who advise that the site can remain open and customers can feel confident to visit.
“We are contacting customers who are booked to use the pool over the next few days to inform them of the situation. We appreciate this will inconvenience people but are grateful for their understanding during these unprecedented times.”
