Detectives investigating an assault in Salisbury which left a man with a serious ear injury have made an arrest.

The incident happened at approximately 2am on 10 August – a member of the public called police to report a disorder in Eyers Way.

Officers attended the scene alongside paramedics and a man in his 30s was taken to Salisbury District Hospital with a serious injury to his ear.

Since the incident, officers have been conducting enquiries and yesterday, a man in his 30s from Salisbury was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent. He was taken to Melksham custody for questioning and has since been released on conditional bail while further enquiries are conducted.

Det Insp Matt Smith said: “This was a really nasty incident which has left a man with part of his ear missing and he will require extensive surgery.

“Violence of this nature is simply unacceptable and causes concern and fear amongst local residents. I’d like to reassure the local community that we have conducted an extremely robust investigation since we received the initial report and we have made an arrest.

“Officers will continue to carry out increased patrols in the area, and we would urge anyone who may have information in relation to the assault, to get in touch.”

Call 101 and quote crime reference number 54200079301. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
