Detectives investigating the death of a man found in bushes near Swindon Railway Station yesterday morning have ruled any suspicious circumstances.

Wiltshire Police were alerted to the body discovery by paramedics responding to a 999 call from a member of the public who found the man unresponsive in the undergrowth at the side of the former Zurich building in Station Road at around 10.30am.

South Western Ambulance Service pronounced the man, in his 40s, dead at the scene.

Working alongside the British Transport Police, Swindon CID launched an investigation into the death. Following a nine-hour probe, officers concluded that there are no suspicious circumstances.

Gloucester Street was cordoned off as a crime scene until 8pm when the man’s body was recovered by a private ambulance. Station Road was closed intermittently as police worked at the incident.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “At approximately 10.30am today (09/08) we received a call from the ambulance service about the sudden death of a local man in his 40s on Gloucester Road near Swindon Railway Station.

“Officers cordoned off the area for most of the day while our enquiries were carried out.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious and his family have been informed. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time and a file will now be prepared for HM Coroner.

“The cordon in the area has now been removed and we apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused people today.”
