A school in Trowbridge has been left with a £3,000 repair bill after offenders broke into the building, stealing items and causing criminal damage.

Wiltshire Police has launched a witness appeal following the incident at Clarendon Academy which happened sometime between midnight and 1am on Tuesday 30 May.

An unknown number of offenders broke in to a classroom in the main block of the school, in Frome Road, and set fire to a window frame.

A room in the admin building was also broken in to and damage caused to the fire alarm system.

PC Tom Carver said: “Maintenance staff had returned to the school on Tuesday morning following the Bank Holiday weekend and were sadly greeted by this damage – it is expected that the fire damage to the window will cost approximately £2,000 to £3,000 to fix.

“As well as the damage caused to the building, two large pieces of graffiti art work have been removed from the outside wall of the sports centre at the college and thrown into the pond between the sports centre and the main building.

“This is mindless criminal damage and I am keen to speak to anyone who may have information as to who is responsible for this, or anyone who may have seen or heard suspicious activity in the area shortly after midnight on Tuesday.

“CSI have attended the scene and we are currently in the process of reviewing CCTV and carrying out further enquiries.”

As well as this incident, Holbrook Primary School in Holbrook Lane was also broken into between late Saturday night (27 May) into Tuesday morning (31 May 2017).

Damage was caused to a mobile building with red powder paint thrown on the floor and steps, PVA glue poured over a wall, chairs and table, and two fire extinguishers were used and taken from the building.

If you have any information on either incident, please call Wiltshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
