Two people were arrested in Swindon on Wednesday night after officers spotted a man acting suspiciously around a skip.

At approximately 9pm, officers saw a man on a scooter in the Jennings Street area.

The man was seen to pass through an alleyway between Groves Street and Deburgh Street and officers then observed him putting his hands in a skip – officers stopped the man and the skip was searched with heat cameras. A total of 4 ounces of class A drugs – believed to be crack cocaine – was located in the skip and the man – a 27-year-old from Swindon, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Further enquiries were conducted in relation to the individual and an address linked to him was searched in Padstow Road. In total 2 ounces of heroin were located, as well as over £1,500 cash and between £20-30,000 worth of designer clothing, shoes and jewellery.

A woman in her 30s was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and being concerned in the supply.

Both have been interviewed at Gablecross custody and have since been released under investigation while further enquiries are carried out including testing of the drugs seized.

Det Sgt Joe Shanklin said: “In total, the class A drugs seized during this incident are believed to have an estimated street value of £17,000.

“The vigilant work of officers on Wednesday night will have caused significant disruption to the supply of class A drugs in Swindon and I am pleased that we have been able to seize such a substantial amount and prevent it from causing further harm to those must vulnerable within our community.

“We’d continue to urge members of the public who suspect drug activity in their neighbourhood to report it to us so we can take action.”
