Wiltshire Police say they have made three arrests following a house fire in Swindon.

The fire service was called to the scene in Station Road at around 7.30pm on Saturday evening, where four firefighters entered the building to extinguish the blaze at the rear.

A woman, in her 30s, was rescued from the house according to a senior firefighter at the scene. She was taken to an ambulance for assessment but didn’t require any treatment.

Police officers arrived at the incident after around 20 minutes, arresting three men on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life – a crime which carries a possible life sentence.

The fire is believed to have started outside the house, spreading inside and smoke-logging the property. An investigation into the cause of the blaze was launched.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police commented: “We were called to an address on Station Road, Swindon, at 7.30pm on May 23 following reports of a fire.

“Three fire appliances were required to extinguish the fire. Luckily, no-one was injured.

“Three men were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and all three have been released under investigation as our enquiries continue.”
