Many Wiltshire residents are continuing to make non-essential outings with their families and friends despite the clear request from the government to only make essential trips.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock today branded Britons who failed to heed their advice as “very selfish”.

On BBC Radio 4 this this morning, he said that “if people go within two metres of others who they don’t live with then they’re helping to spread the virus – and the consequences of that costs lives and it means that, for everyone, this will go on for longer.”

He said the government advice on social distancing was “really clear” and people should stay two metres apart, staying at home where possible. People should only be going out if it is essential.

Youths play football in closed playpark in Old Town, Swindon

At 3pm today, seven youths were seen playing football together in a Swindon playpark very obviously closed with red and white tape, a locked gate and signage warning people not to enter. Children’s play areas across the county have been shut by councils today following government advice.

Coate Water was busy on Monday (23 March) afternoon

Meanwhile, Coate Water Country Park and the Old Town Gardens both remained busy today with friends and families making the most of their time off work regardless of the impending lockdown.

At 8.30pm tonight Prime Minster Boris Johnson is to address the nation with a statement. It’s thought further restrictions on people’s movements will be brought in, including airport closures.
