Two secondary school students from Wiltshire are in self-isolation over coronavirus concerns.

The Malmesbury Secondary School pupils were sent home where they will be assessed and tested, whilst looking out for any symptoms of the virus.

The news comes after a primary school staff member from St Mary’s Primary School in Tetbury – just five miles away – tested positive for coronavirus in recent days.

A spokesperson for Public Health for Wiltshire Council said: “We can confirm that two pupils at Malmesbury School (Secondary) have been placed in self-isolation.

“This has been carried out as a precautionary measure only. They are currently well and I can reassure you that neither pupil has been diagnosed as having contracted the virus to date.

“Malmesbury School remains open as usual. Please be assured that the risk of infection very low and there is currently no public health reason for the school to close.

“These pupils are being asked to isolate themselves at home and look out for relevant symptoms such as cough, fever, shortness of breath. Should they develop symptoms within 14 days they will be assessed and tested.

“All other students and staff members can go about their day-to-day activities as normal.

“I am working very closely with the school and we will of course keep you informed if the situation changes.”
