Chippenham pensioner wrecks Fiat 500 in crash with neighbours’ house

A pensioner has wrecked a Fiat 500 when he reversed into his neighbours’ house in Chippenham this morning.

Three fire engines responded to the collision, which destroyed a porch built just two weeks ago, at around 11.30am.

South Western Ambulance Service and two police officers also attended the scene in Coniston Road, off Queen’s Crescent, following the crash. No one was seriously injured, and the occupants of the property were not home at the time.

It is understood a worker was due to visit the properly to carry out some finishing touches to the porch — luckily they didn’t arrive otherwise they could have been seriously hurt in the incident.

It’s not clear how the elderly neighbour managed to crash into the home, which is about four doors down.

This afternoon, the damaged Fiat was parked in the garage of the pensioner’s home — the back window smashed and the rear end severely damaged.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two crews from Chippenham and a further crew from Corsham were mobilised to a road traffic collision involving one car which had reversed into a domestic property in Coniston Road.
