UPDATE: Police launch investigation after man falls critically ill at Devizes address

Firefighters have helped to remove a critical ill patient from a building in Devizes this morning.

The ambulance service were called to the scene at around 8am where the road – Northgate Street – was closed in both directions by police while they worked.

Fire crews from Devizes, Chippenham and Trowbridge were involved in the rescue.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service told Wiltshire 999s: “We have attended with an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and an operations officer.”

The road has since reopened.
