An elderly woman has crashed her car into Next at a busy Wiltshire retail park.
Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision involving a single vehicle and a building in Chippenham at around 12pm this afternoon (Wednesday).
The incident, at Bath Road Retail Park, saw a black Mercedes-Benz A180 smash into Next, damaging brickwork, metal cladding and a external pipe.
The driver, a woman aged in her 80s, was helped my firefighters and a short time later taken into an ambulance to be assessed.
It’s understood she was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath as a precaution. No serious injuries are believed to have been sustained in the crash.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said it sent two crews from Chippenham and an officer – assisting with casualty care and scene safety.
Wiltshire Police said that officers responded to reports of a car colliding with a wall.
A spokesperson confirmed that the driver, a woman aged in her 80s, was taken to hospital “to be assessed for potential injuries”, and no arrests were made.
Next was closed to the public, with staff turning customers away at the door. The store remained closed at 3.30pm and it’s not clear when it’ll reopen.
