More details about the offending of a paedophile who upskirted schoolgirls in Chippenham and kept hundreds of child abuse images can be revealed by Wiltshire 999s.

Ashraful Islam, 21, of Kings Avenue, secretly took photographs and videos up the skirts of schoolgirls in the Chippenham area, Wiltshire Police has confirmed.

The force said that 37 of the photographs and videos he took constituted Category C indecent images of children and related to him secretly recording local children.

The upskirting took place between 26 September 2022 and 21 March 2023. It is not clear whether the schoolgirls were identified and informed of the offending.

Perverted Islam was handed a 26-month prison sentence, suspended for three years, at Swindon Crown Court last week.

He had admitted seven offences, including taking an indecent photograph of a child, voyeurism and possessing Category A, B and C indecent images of children.

Islam was arrested in connection with an unrelated matter in March and his mobile phone was seized by police.

Officers examining the device discovered hundreds of child abuse images, including nearly 350 Category A images – the most serious classification – which had been downloaded onto his phone.

The examination also uncovered the photographs and videos Islam had taken while upskirting schoolgirls in Chippenham.

Islam was convicted of voyeurism over the upskirting and of taking an indecent photograph of a child during the same period.

He also admitted possessing Category A, B and C indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children between 5 July and 18 October 2025.

Islam was further convicted of possessing a prohibited image of a child on 3 October 2025.

Another offence related to his possession of an extreme pornographic image portraying assault by penetration between 15 July 2025 and 15 January 2026.

The charge states that the image explicitly and realistically portrayed non-consensual sexual penetration and was such that a reasonable person looking at it would think the people depicted were real.

Alongside the 26-month suspended prison sentence, Islam was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and undertake 26 days of the Building Better Choices programme.

He must complete up to 26 days of rehabilitation activity and pay a £228 surcharge.

The court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years and Islam will be subject to sex offender notification requirements for the same period.

The order places extensive restrictions on his use of electronic devices and the internet, including requirements to declare relevant devices to police and make them available for inspection.

Islam is prohibited from using private browsing modes and VPNs to conceal his internet activity. He is also restricted from accessing social media or chat services without written police approval.

The order restricts him from having unsupervised contact or communication with children under 16, subject to specified exceptions, and from living in a household with a child under 16 without appropriate approval.

He is also prohibited from undertaking employment or activities likely to bring him into contact with children under 16, except where that contact is inadvertent and not reasonably avoidable in everyday life.

A further condition prohibits Islam from deliberately photographing or recording a child under 16, or any other person, without that person’s express permission.

The court also ordered the forfeiture of all stored media and media storage devices seized.

Detective Constable Will Saunders, of Wiltshire Police, said: “Islam was found in possession of hundreds of images of child abuse.

“Each of these images represents a real victim who has suffered serious, life changing abuse and those who view, possess, or share such material are contributing to that harm.

“I’d like to thank the officers who worked on this case particularly the digital forensics unit whose hard work allowed us to uncover a true picture of his offending.”
