A 100kg ram named Rambo has been rescued by firefighters after becoming firmly wedged inside a concrete pipe in Somerset.
A crew from Somerton Fire Station was called to the urgent animal rescue in Keinton Mandeville on Sunday (13 September).
Firefighters had been alerted to reports of a ram stuck inside a pipe and discovered Rambo trapped when they arrived at the scene.
Due to the unusual circumstances, the crew had to use a combination of equipment carried aboard the fire engine to safely release the 100kg animal.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Due to the unique nature of the incident, the crew had to think outside the box and make use of a number of different pieces of equipment carried on the fire engine.
“Using our chimney rods, the crew were able to feed a GP line around Rambo, while a hearth sheet was carefully positioned underneath him.
“Once everything was safely in place, the line was pulled, allowing Rambo to slide along the sheet and out of the pipe.”
The operation was successful and Rambo was safely freed. He was then returned to the care of farmers following his unusual ordeal.
The fire service added: “A happy Rambo was then left in the care of the farmers.”
The animal rescue also marked a milestone for the Somerton crew, with the incident being its 200th call-out of the year.
Somerton Fire Station described the incident on social media as a “RAMBO RESCUE!”
