An equestrian has been seriously injured after her horse was spooked by a ‘speeding’ van.
Wiltshire Police are investigating the incident in Lower Woodrow Road, Melksham on 31 July.
The victim, a woman aged in her 30s, was riding a horse when she was leaving an equestrian lodge on the countryside route between 9.20am and 9.40am.
A van, which police say was travelling at speed along the road, spooked the horse. As a result, the woman was thrown to the ground.
While on the ground, the horse stepped on her – causing serious injuries.
A force spokesperson said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or may have captured dash cam of the van.
“It’s described as white with brown markings on the side – we unfortunately don’t have a make, model or number plate.
“We’d also like to remind drivers of the importance of passing horses “wide and slow”, keeping at least two metres distance and reducing speed to a maximum of 10mph.
