Hundreds of fake squishy toys have been seized by Trading Standards officers during an operation in Chippenham.
Wiltshire Council operatives carried out the seizure today (Thursday) after discovering the counterfeit NeeDoh goods failed to comply with toy safety legislation.
The authority said similar unofficial products have previously been found to contain elevated levels of chemicals that may pose serious health risks.
The council did not confirm which shop they located and seized the products from.
None of the toys seized during the operation were marked with the name and address of a UK-based manufacturer or importer.
Trading Standards said this information is a legal requirement and helps ensure products can be traced if safety issues are identified.
Officers warned that the absence of this information is a warning sign that there may be other compliance or safety concerns.
The council is urging anyone buying popular squishy toys, including NeeDoh products, to take care and watch out for counterfeit items.
Consumers are advised to buy from reputable retailers, check for manufacturer or importer details and be cautious of bargains that appear too good to be true.
