A body of a man has been discovered under a bench at a Calne beauty spot.

Emergency services were called to reports of an unresponsive male at Castlefields Park, near Patford Street, at around 4.45am this morning (Friday).

The man, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead. A tarpaulin was placed over the bench and the area was cordoned off.

Detectives attended the scene to carry out an investigation into the death, soon ruling out any suspicious circumstances.

Despite police taping off all entrances to the park, numerous people were seen ducking under and attempting to carry on their dog walk as usual.

Officers, who were at the time trying to assist undertakers, were forced to stop the members of the public who chose to ignore the ‘police do not cross’ tape.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that they were called to a sudden death involving a man in his 20s and there we no suspicious circumstances.

“Our thoughts are with his family”, a spokesperson for the force added.

Castlefields Park reopened at around 9am.
