A pensioner ‘is fighting for his life’ after a crash on a busy junction in Swindon.

Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Kingshill Road at around 5.30pm on Saturday afternoon (13 June).

The incident involved a bicycle and a blue Volvo XC90 – which appeared to have minor front-end damage following the smash.

The cyclist, a man aged in his 80s, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. It’s believed he was in a life-threatening condition. His next of kin has been informed.

Police cordoned off the route in both directions for around ten hours while 999 crews attended the scene and a forensic collision investigation was carried out.

At the time a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are currently attending the scene of a road traffic collision on Kingshill Road, Swindon, in which a cyclist has been in collision with a car.

“The cyclist, a man in his 80s, has been taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

“There have been no arrests.

“Closures are currently in place at the top of Kingsill Road at the Junction with Bath Road.”
