A home has sustained major damage after a blaze was tackled by six fire crews.

Emergency services were called a fire in the bedroom of a terraced residential property in Redland in Chippenham shortly before 6pm on Thursday evening (11 June).

Six fire engines from Chippenham, Corsham, Melksham and Trowbridge attended, alongside an aerial ladder platform appliance from Swindon and a support unit from Pewsey.

A total of 12 firefighters donned breathing apparatus and used three main lines to extinguish the flames.

Firefighting efforts stopped shortly after 10pm and the house was left partially gutted.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said it started in a first-floor bedroom and the cause was likely an electrical fault.

A spokesperson said: “We were called at 5:48pm yesterday, 11 June with reports of a property fire on Redland, Chippenham.

“On arrival, crews found a fire involving a bedroom on the first floor of a terraced domestic property.

“Six pumping appliances attended from Chippenham x 2, Corsham, Melksham and Trowbridge x 2, along with the ALP from Swindon and a support vehicle from Pewsey.

“Twelve firefighters in breathing apparatus used three main lines to extinguish the fire and our stop was in at 10:13pm.”
