A woman is in hospital after a Mini Cooper was hit by a police car responding to a 999 call.
Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A350 in Chippenham shortly after 12.05pm on Wednesday (3 June).
The incident – on the junction for Kington St Michael – involved a marked Ford Kuga police vehicle and a black Mini Cooper, with two occupants.
Responding in a rapid response vehicle, Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance were tasked to the scene alongside numerous ambulance and fire crews.
The female passenger, aged in her 70s, was treated for serious injuries. However, they are not said to be life-threatening or life-changing.
The male driver, also aged in his 70s, was discharged after being assess by paramedics. The police officer was also discharged at scene.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that the officer was responding to a 999 call on blue lights at the time of the collision. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
The northbound carriageway of the A350 was closed for forensic collision investigation and recovery work, reopening at around 6pm.
The force has made a referral to the police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) – which will assess the circumstances and decide if a full investigation is required.
