Two councillors have taken action after three dogs died at a Swindon beauty spot.
Pets Rae, Peggy and Meg were killed in separate fatal incidents involving unprotected storm drains at Mouldon Hill Country Park last year.
Following serious concerns raised about water safety, Conservative councillors Leanne Stevenson and Vinay Manro worked to secure improvements at the site.
In an update, they labelled their efforts a “success” – getting substantial culvert guards and fencing installed around the lake to prevent future dog deaths.
Cllr Stevenson said: “Success at Mouldon Hill Lake.
“Water safety improvement works are now complete, with new, more substantial culvert guards and fencing installed at the lake.
“Additional warning signage will also be added, including information on water depth and the potential for fast currents, particularly after heavy rain.
“On the River Ray side of the culvert, the non-return valve has been repaired and a new safety guard installed.
“This is a positive outcome and a good example of practical action following concerns raised about water safety around the lake and nearby watercourses.”
