UPDATE: Teen girl ‘has serious injuries’ after police chase crash, dad says

A teenage girl is in hospital after a police pursuit ended in a crash on a junction.

Officers were chasing a white BMW after it failed to stop in Chippenham, before the fleeing driver joined the A350 towards Lacock at around 10am.

The pursuit came to an abrupt end when the vehicle collided with a silver Volkswagen Caravelle – containing a family – on the Whitehall Garden Centre junction.

Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance were tasked alongside local ambulance crews, with critical care medics treating a teenage girl at the scene.

Her injuries have since been confirmed as minor, Wiltshire Police said.

The driver of the BMW, a man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving.

It’s not known if the suspect sustained injuries in the smash – but a man was removed from the BMW on a stretcher and taken into an ambulance.

The road was closed in both directions while the incident was dealt with – reopening to motorists at 12.30pm.

In a statement, a Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We have arrested a man on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving after a car was in collision with a people carrier on the A350 at Lacock at about 9.45am today (01/02) following a police pursuit.

“A teenage girl was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

“The road was reopened at about 12.30pm.”
