A woman has been arrested after a cyclist was killed in early morning crash on A350 at Lacock.

Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision on the busy route, close to the Melksham Road junction, at around 5am today (Tuesday).

The incident involved a cyclist and a silver Vauxhall. The cyclist – a 64-year-old man – was struck by the car, sustaining significant injuries.

Despite the best efforts of ambulance crews, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Vauxhall – a 38-year-old woman – was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by drug driving.

The road was closed and cordoned off by police, with a full-scale forensic collision investigation was launched.

Specialist officers have spent much of the day examining and documenting the fatal crash site.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “It is our sad duty to report that a 64-year-old man has died following a road traffic collision, when his bicycle was in collision with a car on the A350 at Lacock at about 5am today.

“The man’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time.

“A 38-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and further arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by drug driving.

“She is currently in police custody.

“Closures remain in place on the A350 in both directions to allow further investigations to take place.

“Anyone who witnessed what took place or who may have dash cam footage is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 or email [email protected] quoting log 24 of today’s date (20/01).”
