Wiltshire Council is warning motorists as a team of gritters are deployed on Wiltshire routes.
Local residents are urged to take extra care when travelling as icy conditions are expected this evening and overnight.
Gritting teams are due to head out across the county, but motorists are being warned not to assume that all roads will have been treated.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council said: “Our gritting teams are heading out this evening and overnight, so please take extra care on the roads, allow more time for your journeys, don’t assume roads have been treated and watch out for ice, particularly black ice.
“Anyone heading out on foot or on a bicycle should take extra care and be aware of slips and trips in the icy conditions.”
Drivers are being advised to slow down, plan ahead and remain alert for hidden hazards caused by freezing temperatures.
Pedestrians and cyclists are also being reminded to take extra caution, particularly on untreated pavements and cycle routes.
It comes just 24 hours after a driver overturned their car on a frozen country lane near Calne. Thankfully they weren’t seriously injured in the incident.
