The Grinch has been arrested after ‘attempting to dampen the Christmas spirit’, Wiltshire Police has confirmed in a statement.
Officers in Amesbury responded to calls about a suspicious green character causing issues in the Central Car Park in the town at the weekend.
“The male, infamously known as The Grinch, from The Cave, Mount Crumpit, North of Whoville, was located “green handed” attempting to steal candy canes, presents, decorations and trees”, a force spokesperson said.
Adding: “One arrest was made by PCSO Morphy and PCSO Douse from the Neighbourhood Policing team for crimes against Christmas with The Grinch remanded in custody until he embraces the festivities.
“We wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a happy and healthy 2026.”
