Backlash as cosmetics company Lush launches ‘utterly disgraceful’ attack on police

Cosmetics company Lush have caused international outrage among the police and supporter of the emergency services after launching an “anti-police” campaign.

The campaign, set up to raise concerns over “intrusive, abusive, political policing in the UK”, but critics have called for customers to boycott the shop over the stereotype.

A LUSH STOREFRONT TODAY
Peter Kirkham, a former police officer and commentator on policing, said: “Your anti police advertising campaign is an utter disgrace. It stereotypes ALL police officers as corrupt & includes some fundamental misrepresentations of the facts.

“I trust that you will never again seek police assistance if you are the victims of crime.”

The Lush UK Facebook page has received 19,000 negative reviews in the past 24 hours.

A LUSH spokesperson said: “This is not an anti-state/anti-police campaign. We are aware that the police forces of the UK are doing an increasingly difficult and dangerous job whilst having their funding slashed. We fully support them in having proper police numbers, correctly funded to fight crime, violence and to be there to serve the public at our times of need.

“This campaign is not about the real police work done by those front line officers who support the public every day – it is about a controversial branch of political undercover policing that ran for many years before being exposed.”
